Getaround launched to the public in May 2011 at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference. The company operates in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco Bay Area, New Jersey, Portland, Seattle, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, San Diego, Los Angeles, Denver, and Washington D.

Something fun to make everyone’s day rosey. In all transparency, there was not much reason to creating this application aside from finding some humour in the chaos of today’s climate. From politics to drivers it was decided among family to string together something with a more rosey outlook.

For the family, the task was simple: Share with Rosey what ails you, and she will perk you up.

For the engineer, the challenge was set to create a cross platform experience that pushed some knewer skills tech as Machine Learning, graphQL, and a mobile application written in Flutter.

I got really tired of riding my bike to BART and not really knowing how much time I had between locking up, and getting to the platform. I found it unacceptable to have to unlock my phone, fumble around to find a BART app, enter my travel details, and wait for a schedule. By the time I had accomplished these tasks, a train was well on its way to the platform.

Once the results were found, users could peruse the list of trainers and read profile information such as testimonials, images, availability, and booking prices. Trainers accessed their personal profiles and provided real time updates about themselves through the administrative dashboard.

My participation started with creating the chat feature, and like all projects with many engineers, it morphed into “work on this, and fix that”. It was a fun project with a tight deadline.
